Rivers of Bangladesh: Bangladesh is a land of rivers. There are more than 230 rivers in the whole country. The importance of rivers is really immense for the country. Our agriculture, energy sector, water-way communication, economy, trade, and commerce, etc are greatly dependent on our rivers. The Padma, the Meghna, the Jamuna, and the Karnafuli are the main rivers. Besides these, there are many small rivers in our country. All the rivers are necessary for our national life. The river plays an important role in our agriculture. The rivers supply water and make the land fertile by depositing silt (). Silt helps to grow plenty of crops as it makes the soil fertile. The rivers abound with a great variety (fishes. Fishes are one of the main sources of protein which is very important for the human body. Many people earn their livelihood by catching and selling fish. Thus river plays a great role in our economy and health. Rivers play a vital role in our communication. Our rivers are great means of transport too. Rivers can be extensively used to go from one place to another. People can make an easy and comfortable journey across the river. Șo rivers are of great importance to communication. Rivers can be used as sources of energy. At present we get power from the hydroelectric project of Karnafuli.. Sometimes rivers become a curse () for us. In the rainy season, the rivers become full to the brim. They cause floods and floods cause great suffering and even death to the people and animals. River erosion is another curse for us. Every year many people become homeless and shelterless and we lose much of our cultivable lands due to river erosion. In conclusion, we can say that our rivers are a great asset for us. If we can use them properly, it will bring great benefit for us.

So rice, jute, tea, and other crops grow in plenty here. Our rivers abound with fish. Fish is an important wealth. Our fishermen catch a huge quantity of fish. They earn a lot of foreign exchange by exporting fish. Fish is our main item of food. The rivers of our country are the main ways of communication. Boats, launches, and steamers move on these rivers in all seasons. Men and goods are carried from one town to another from one port to another. Most of the cities, towns, industries, hats, bazaars, trade centers are on the bank of rivers. The products of mills, factories, and industries are easily carried to different places through rivers. Raw materials () from far and near can be carried easily to our industries. Thus our rivers help in commerce, trade, and industry. Some of our rivers are a source of energy. Goalpara and Karnafuli hydroelectric projects are used to solve the electricity problems. The rivers have a great influence on the people of our country. We love the rivers, their water, and music. Much of our joy and happiness depends on rivers. Sometimes rivers cause great damage to our life and property. In the rainy season, the rivers overflow their banks and cause floods. People suffer untold suffering in spite of the little harm, the rivers are useful to us in many ways. They are the source of our wealth, health, and happiness.
